Gone are the days when men were expected to initiate a first date; women aren’t waiting around for mister right and are taking the lead in their love lives. A new dating study from WhatsYourPrice.com shows that when it comes to sending the first online message, women hit send immediately, while men experience message anxiety.

Women once played by the rules without question but 2015 was all about inspiring change. Influencers like Amy Schumer and Selena Gomez have encouraged women to be exactly who they are.

This societal boost has translated to online dating, as a new survey finds that women don’t wait for a chance at love.

Dating site WhatsYourPrice.com surveyed 14,400 members to determine how much time it takes for men and women to hit send after seeing a profile they were interested in. The survey reveals that women waste no time going after what they want, while men were more likely to wait a few hours after seeing a profile before sending a message. Researchers at WhatsYourPrice are labeling this behavior as “message anxiety.”

“Women are used to receiving dozens of messages online so when they choose to initiate contact it shows they're genuinely interested,” says Brandon Wade, founder and CEO of WhatsYourPrice.com. “The dating experience in general is significantly different for men. Men are more prone to rejection, which may make them a little bit hesitant to message women online.”

WhatsYourPrice.com is a patent-pending website. The dating site allows “Generous” members to bid and pay for first dates with “Attractive” members, revealing not just how much they are willing to spend on a first date, but on a chance at love.
