NYC Restaurant Review: Jolie Cantina

This weekend we decided to visit a Mexican/French fusion restaurant in Brooklyn for our first ever restaurant review for Nicole Magazine. The restaurant can be a bit hard to get to for a Manhattanite, but the Cobble Hill eatery seems to be easy to reserve on a Saturday night which earns this it some major Nicole Magazine love, cause we don't always like planning ahead.

They have an interesting drink menu with fun combinations. We ordered the red sangria which came in a wine glass with a straw. The sangria was a little sweet, but overall pleasant.

The restaurant has a fun decor and nice dim lighting. We started off with the lobster tacos and Mexican Ravioli. Both were delicious, but the Mexican Ravioli won our heart. The raviolis are little mini raviolis in a tomatoe based broth complete with a little kick from the jalapenos the chef added. The dish was full of flavor and the hybrid of a soup and pasta dish made it unique and like nothing we've ever tried before. For our main course we ordered the shrimp fajitas and they were very good. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and everything was fresh. The shrimp and vegetables could have used a bit more seasoning, but overall the dish was very good and the corn tortillas were solid.

We ordered the macadamia molten cake for dessert which didn't disappoint, but there could have been more macadamia flavor as it added a nice touch to the traditional molten cake.

Overall, our experience Jolie Cantina was quite nice until we realized they only take American Express and conveniently have an ATM in the back with a $2 transaction fee to squeeze some extra cash out of patrons. This was a turn off, but we will still be back because the food was good, the atmospehere was perfect for a low key dinner and we know we can make a rezzy on impulse.

We give Jolie Cantina 3.5 stars out of 5.
